Destin - Beach time and Father's Day

On Sunday we celebrated Father's day and our first official day at the beach. Mom cooked all the dads a delicious breakfast complete with pancakes, sausage and bacon and then the girls cleaned up the kitchen.

Doug and Will on Father's Day

After breakfast we all hit the ground running to the beach. Most of our days at the beach consisted of this: breakfast, beach time, pool time, nap, and dinner. What a wonderful schedule huh? Lunch was thrown into the mix if you were hungry at that time. All the kids were so excited to be getting their feet wet and sand between their toes.

Our beach set up

Dad, the typical beach reader

Will, the lover of sand toys and water

Anna Grace, my ocean wave riding buddy

Mom and Mary, the protector of the beach chairs

Peyton, the lover of all things sandy

Mary, another book reader

Michael, Will, Peyton, and Anna Grace building a river to catch all the water

Anessa and Peyton riding the waves

After beachin' it all day, we did an early dinner at Red Bar because it was Dad's favorite place because of the homemade bread pudding he has talked about for over a year! The first time we all ate at Red Bar, Dad had bread pudding for dessert and wouldn't quit talking about how good it was. So we decided Red Bar was the perfect spot for dinner on Father's Day so Dad could get his bread pudding and yes indeed it was still good as ever! After dinner we went back to watch the Rebels play the first round in the College World Series against Virginia! Unfortunately it didn't turn out to be a good win for the Rebels but we all had a good time watching them play!

Destin 2014 - Travel Day

A week ago, we just got back from an awesome beach vacation in Destin. We actually stayed east of Destin on 30a at the Adagio in Blue Mountain Beach. It was wonderful and away from all the hustle and bustle of Destin. Our favorite restaurants are off 30A so we only went into Destin once to eat. We went with my entire family. With my parents and both my sisters and their families we had a total of 12 people and had the best time together. Most all stayed the whole week but we had to come back early because I didn't have enough vacation time to use for work. It was awful leaving them a few days early but we had a great time while we were together and made great memories.

Friday after work, Doug, Will and I headed to Prattville, AL to make the trip half way. We like Prattville and its a good half way stopping point. Since Will's a little older and more active we really didn't know what he would do on a 6-7 hour trip so we decided to drive half way and plus if we got to Destin early we planned on shopping and get that out of the way. So we landed in Prattville about 8pm Friday night and had a great time. Will played with the telephone and the remote in the room and he was happy.

Saturday morning we got up and hit the road to Destin. Will watched Mickey and Jake the Neverland Pirates on the Ipad the whole way there then passed out when we got about 30 minutes outside Destin which was great because Doug dropped me off and I went shopping and they stayed in the car and slept.

At about 3pm we headed to the condo to see if it was ready and to meet Mary and John there to start unloading the car.

After everyone arrived and we unpacked we went to dinner at the Local Catch on 30A which was just up the street. We were all tired from driving all day and decided for a more relaxed dinner. It was great food and good atmosphere. At Local Catch, Mary announced that she and John were pregnant with their FIRST child due in January 2015. Least to say, we were extremely happy and thrilled for them. Then the girls and dad of course went to the grocery store and the others went back to swim or just simply crash.

Oxford Regional

The weekend of June 6-8 the Ole Miss baseball team hosted a regional which is the rounds before you get to Omaha for the College World Series.

On Friday night it rained so the first game was postponed until Saturday. Mary and John were already in Oxford so we went over Saturday for the start of the first game which was going to be on Saturday at 5pm and ended up spending the weekend in Oxford and catching all the games in the regional because Ole Miss kept winning.

We had 4 tickets so we had to get Will a general admission ticket so he just sat in our lap or stood in front of us. We had a great weekend cheering on the Rebels and also spending time with Mary and John.

Aunt Mary and Will

Ready for the first game

Nothing like some good sweet tea to get you ready for baseball

Sunday morning Aunt Mary had her lap full with Will, Bubby, and Maddie. An iPad was involved for Will so he was being entertained.

Just waiting to go to the baseball game

Still drinking tea with Aunt Mary

And to top it all off and a no nap weekend, Will fell asleep on the way home and was barely able to keep his eyes open to eat a chicken nugget. Bless him, he was so tired.

The last game of the series was played Moday afternoon because of all the rain delays and rescheduling of the games. Doug, Will, Papaw Penny, and Poppa Bill all went over to watch the game. Unfortunately they had way too much fun because a huge Rebel win was achieved and the Rebels were off to Louisiana to play the Rajin Cajuns of Lafayette, Lousiana the next weekend in the super regional.

A great ending to a great baseball season at Swayze Field! Until next year Rebels!!!

Haley and Michael's Wedding

Memorial Day weekend, May 24th, Haley Joiner and Michael Davis, got married in Bono, Arkansas at The Silos. Haley is Doug's cousin and was in our wedding 10 years ago. It was so great to be there with the family and watch Haley and Michael get married.

The Silos is the cutest barn I've ever seen and is the perfect scene for a wedding. Haley had the barn and outside decorated so cute. All of the decorations were family heirlooms and things family had saved or items used from their land. The windows they wrote on were from a family home. Mamaw Penny saved vegetable cans and they put baby's breath in th and strung them across the beams.

Haley and Michael got married outside under an arbor her father made. The first four benches were old rustic pews and the rest of the seating were just chairs from the Silos. Aligning the aisles and at the end of each row were tree stumps with old white family vases with flowers in them.

Haley's bridesmaids wore turquoise dresses, flats and their hair all up or to the side. The guys wore gray tuxedos and the ring bearers had on gray tuxedos with suspenders and gray hats on. They were adorable. The ring bearers carried a sign that read "Uncle Michael here comes the bride" right before Haley walked down the aisle.

The wedding was so pretty and very sentimental. I loved the way the preacher went into how they met, what their reactions were when they first met, their future life together and plans, and about the proposal. He talked about how he asked each parent what they thought about Haley and Michael. When Barry, Haley's dad, was asked how he felt about Michael his answer was "he's okay." The ceremony in itself was very down to earth and personalable. It was absolutely beautiful and perfect and one of the sweetest ones I've been too.

The reception was held inside and outside near the barn. Haley had breakfast for reception food and had a whole buffet full of pancakes and all the toppings, bacon, grits, sausage, steak skewers, fresh fruit, biscuits and jelly, orange juice, tea, water, chocolate milk and coffee. It was delicious and perfect.

Her wedding cake was made by her grandmother and it was strawberry with cream cheese icing and she also had another cake that was a confetti cake both were good.

We even got a chance to pose with the busy bride and groom as they greeted all their friends and family. It was a great day to celebrate Haley and Michael.

Will survived even if he did get a bloody nose while rolling down a hill BEFORE the ceremony started and he also ran into a wooden table and bruised his face right below his eye. Poor thing! Weddings are not his thing!

Just a few more pictures of the wedding.
