Nicu Day 46

After a successful weight gain yesterday Will gained again. He is up to 2lbs 2oz or 950 grams! Way to go Will!! He had 3 full poopie diapers yesterday and they kept telling me that he might loose weight but he did not!! Yeah for successful weight gain! So that means since January 19 the day he was born, he has doubled his weight in almost 7 weeks. I think that is great! They tell you it takes FOREVER to get to 2lbs or 1000 grams and I definately believe them. We have 50 grams to go until Will gets his "Grammy Award." When he gets that I will explain it to you.

Will has a chest xray and blood gas in the morning. He will also have an eye exam with Dr Brawner on this Wednesday afternoon so please pray for that and that there is nothing wrong with his eyes.

Nicu Day 45

Will had a good night. The best news is HE HIT THE 2lb MARK IN WEIGHT!!! Do you hear me? My baby born almost 7 weeks ago Thursday at 1lb 1oz finally weighs 2lbs or 900 grams!! I'm so proud of him!! We were in the room when they weighed him last night and we literally had a party. After his weight loss the other night, I thought he would NEVER reach the 2lb mark but he did!! We are soooooooo proud of you little buddy! The nurses say once they hit the 2lb mark in weight they start gaining weight like crazy! I'm anxious to see if that is true. But he had a big poopie diaper today so we will see.

He is getting a blood transfusion and some more of Poppa Bill's blood so he is just a chilling today. Blood gases have all been good and have turned his rate down to 20 breathes per minute from 25 yesterday. So we are making progress with little Will.

Nicu Day 44

Will had a good night. Unfortunately he lost weight and is down to 840 grams or 1lb 14oz. They changed his vent pressures to 18 over 5 because his blood gases have been great. He will have another blood gas today and one in the morning as well as a complete blood count. His head ultrasound from yesterday was clear. He did have a slight grade 1 brain bleed but it is NO LONGER there!!!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!!!!!!!!

So Will continues to progress and we continue to enjoy our time with him snuggling. What a joy ithas been to be able to hold him on our chests.

We have been told that in about 2 weeks he will begin to have an eye exam so we are beginning to pray for his exam and that there will be no problems with his eye sight.

Nicu Day 43

Will had a good night. He gained 40 grams and is up to 870 grams or 1lb 15oz. Yeah!!!!!!!! His feedings increased to 16ml and is tolerating it well. He will have a blood gas and a chest xray on the morning. He had a head ultrasound this morning and we don't have the results in yet. We had some snuggle time again today for an hour and mommy and Will enjoyed it so much!!

Nicu Day 42 and Happy 6 Weeks Old

Well Will is back on the ventilator this morning. He got put back on the ventilator at about 6:30 this morning. His blood gases were not good and they steadily had to keep turning him up all throughout the night. Unfortunately momma and daddy were not happy about this but that is okay. It is really not our decision but Will was just not ready. Its not that his airways are not opened good, they are but he is just lazy and his lungs are just too premature. The chest xrays are not showing any signs of lung issues, which is good, they are just really premature.

We want him to come off the ventilator and stay off soooooo bad that it hurts us not to know when this might happen. But without a shadow of a doubt we know God knows when that will happen and in his perfect timing God will reveal that to us and the doctors. It is just so hard waiting for that day and not knowing when that will happen. But we will continue to pray and ask God for that perfect peace and patience for us to rest in knowing that he is in control.

A co-worker of mine sent me this devotion today and it was exactly what I needed. I'm just blessed by all the encouragement that has been sent to us. We really wanted this to happen but we are fully trusting in God because this is in his ultimate plan for Will's life.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. Romans 8:28

God is masterful in weaving events together for His glory, even if it is painful, challenging, or traumatic. When your world comes crashing down, keep your faith focused on God. He will not fail you. When your attention is focused on a solid rock, your perspective changes and the rest moves into your peripheral view. How can you stay focused on God when all else fails? Plant yourself in God’s word. Be persistent in prayer. Confide in an accountability partner who is mature in their faith.


But we are still rejoicing in the fact that Will has been off the ventilator 3 times and we will continue to rejoice that there is nothing wrong with his lungs that is causing these set backs.

In other news, Will continues to grow every day. He now measures 13 1/4 inches in length and his head is 9 7/8 inches round, which means he has gotten a 1/4 inch longer and his head has gotten 5/8 inches bigger. He still weighs 1lb 13oz or 830 grams and he is 6 weeks old today!! He will get a head xray in the morning and is still feeding on 15ml of milk and his sodium and potassium supplements have been taken away. So all in all he continues to grow and change every day!
